9/11 The Ten Year Anniversary

What can I say that hasn’t already been said? What new posts or video links can I attached that haven’t already been watched?  I guess the only thing I can say or post in regards to the 10 year anniversary of the most devastating thing is that WE of this generation will always know where we were on the beautiful morning at that specific time when the world seemed to stop and what we heard, what we watched  all seemed surreal.

So yes, I will post some links.  I am sure a number of them you may have already seen a number of times before.  Please keep those in your prayers those that have lost family members and those that still fight for our freedom.

You Can Be

Today I viewed a video on YouTube and not only was it a poignant video with such a strong message, it made me think about the world around me.

I don’t often refer to any religion or spiritual thoughts or opinions, because I don’t want to offend any ethnic or religious group for what their beliefs may be and if they differ from mine.  But due to a number of reasons, I am going to write a spiritual blog.

How often have we heard DOG is GOD spelled backwards?  More than I can recall being told this.  And aren’t we all God’s children?  All created in the likeness of our “higher being” whomever it may be?  Aren’t all the creatures of the land God’s creatures?  Put here on earth to be cared for by us?  Us humans?

Aren’t we all made the same?  We all have 2 arms, 2 legs, 2 eyes, 2 ears, 1 mouth and 1 nose?  But why do we judge those that are so different than us?  Why do we look at one “breed” dog and say they are ALL BAD?  Or look at another man or woman differently because of the way they dress or they talk?  Aren’t we ALL GOD’s CHILDREN?  I know I was raised to love thy neighbor and not to judge those around me.  And to God we are all the same.  Or whatever higher being you obey, honor or pray too.

But the one thing remains constant; the dog.  What does a dog see when he looks at a Catholic, a Protestant, a Jew, or a Muslim or even an Asian, an African-American, or an Native American?  Does he see what you and I see?  No.  He sees a person.  A human.

Why can we not take our lessons from our dogs?

I am not saying to look at everyone and say they are all good.  I know there are bad people out there, especially when it is only days away from the 10th anniversary of the most devastating event that happened in United States; 9/11.  Need I say more?  But keep in mind ALL types of people died that day that were US Citizens or those working here from other countries, no matter what religious beliefs they had or their skin color.  They were ALL God’s Children.

So watch this video clip and just think about the message it is saying.  And remember; don’t label those just because of what they look like.  The same goes for dogs too.  Not all Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, German Shepherds or Dobermans are bad, but society has labeled them so.

If nothing else, Dogs are God, put on this earth to show us humans not to judge, not to hate, but to love unconditionally.  It is man that has taught dogs to hate and to be mean.  And because of that, Man has judged dogs just because of what they look like.

Breed Specific Legislation or Laws

I am sure a number of you are aware of Breed Specific Legislation or Laws (BSL) and the amount of attention it is getting.  In some areas of United States and in various towns and cities you can’t own a certain breed dog, specifically Pit Bull Terriers.

I did some research and I found that a couple of years ago, in the state of Pennsylvania they too were trying to get a bill into legislation to have breed specific laws in certain ordinances.  Meaning that even if you had a Pit Bull terrier or even a Straffordshire Terrier, they would be deemed vicious dogs and it would be against the law to own them in certain areas within Pennsylvania.

Though the bill never got passed, the thought is there for it to happen and it still could.

Is it right to punish certain breed dogs?  No it isn’t.  So I am going to give you some concept of certain breed dogs.

I have a client and friend who are both looking for places to stay, preferably a rental; apartment or home.  Both own dogs; one a German Shepherd the other a Rottweiler mix.

Both are unable to find suitable housing because these dogs are considered vicious or mean in certain areas of Chester County where rentals are available.  So therefore they are in a situation of what to do.  Both of them are nothing but laid back and easy going dogs; couch potatoes that would rather sit and watch TV or lean against you for some company than chase something or be “mean”.  And I know you are probably thinking or saying, but it has everything to do with how their raised and I am not going to argue with you on that point.  Like the saying goes, “Punish the Deed, Not the Breed.”

As most of you know I do pet sitting.  Now there isn’t a dog I don’t like, but I will tell you which breeds are considered unpredictable and I have found “nasty”.

Dachshunds are considered high on the list of dogs that are unpredictable as far as I am concerned.  Of all the dogs I dealt with while working for my vet and doing pet sitting that is the only breed dog that has ever tried to bite me.

Funny thing is German Shepherds are nothing but big babies with a big bark and to me, Rottweiler’s just look tough because of their markings and size, but most of them are nothing but big teddy bears.  And that goes along with Pit Bulls.

The one dog that is on the top 10 list of dogs that are considered dangerous is the Dalmatian, based upon the 2007 rating.  Very interesting.

A can tell you personally, my ex-husband’s dog bit someone while we were camping and I was left alone in the camp with the dog.  What breed was the dog?  A Golden Retreiver/ Lab mix.  Was he a vicious dog?  No.  He did what came naturally to him and that was to protect his master.

Would my dogs bite someone?  I am sure if they felt threatened or if I was being threatened they would.  Does that make them mean dogs?  No.

Any dog can be made mean or nasty or vicious.  But I find it very surprising that in this area where you don’t see or hear about many dog attacks that certain apartment complexes or landlords have deemed certain dogs mean or of a dangerous breed.

I have been bitten two times in my life; once by my Uncle’s dog and once by my friend’s dog.  Neither breed are on the list of the top ten dogs that are considered vicious.  One breed dog that is on the list is Siberian Husky and the Alaskan Malamute.  Now that fact I find really funny.  I have more clients that have those specific breed dogs and they are the sweetest and most loving dogs I have ever dealt with.  My one client has 17 of them.

This weekend I had a Pit Bull and a Pit Bull mix stay here at my house all weekend.  Are they nasty or vicious? No and both are rescues.  Both come up and give me kisses and sleep with me in bed at night.

It’s is sad to say that in this modern age we are looking at breeds of dogs and already condemning them before they have even stepped out of the car, into a park or into your home.  So don’t judge a book by its cover.

Any dog can be made mean, vicious, nasty or dangerous, however you want to put it.  So if you see or read that the lawmakers in Pennsylvania or any other state or city, want to pass a bill regarding certain breed dogs being dangerous, speak up.  Because if they outlaw one breed of dog, than can do it to another.

Have a Happy Pet Day Everyone!
